Description
What is Vegetable Oil ?
Vegetable oil is a mild, odorless, flavorless, light-colored cooking oil that is good for cooking, frying and for making salad dressings. Any oil made from plants, whether it’s derived from seeds, grains, nuts or fruits, is considered a vegetable oil. But when you see a bottle of oil labeled “vegetable oil,” it’s almost always soybean & or rapeseed oil.
Is vegetable oil the same as refined oil ?
Vegetable oil is qualified as virgin or refined according to the way it has been extracted. If the extraction is done by pressing, then it is considered virgin oil. If the extraction is carried out by solvents, then it is called refined oil, which allows one to obtain a “standardized” oil by modifying its fatty acids.
Is it better to use vegetable oil or sunflower oil ?
They both have comparatively high smoke points, which means they can be cooked to high temperatures before smoking and degrading. However, sunflower oil is comparatively unstable when heated and only really suitable for pan frying (where oil is used only once) and not for deep frying where oil is used repeatedly.
Is vegetable oil a healthy oil ?
While these oils can be a healthy source of fat, some varieties are better choices than others. The consumption of vegetable oils has increased dramatically in the past century. Most mainstream health professionals consider them healthy.
